Janete Costa is a versatile choral director and singer with a strong focus on choral practice for children and youth, particularly in contemporary composition for children’s choirs and integrating movement and storytelling into choral work.
She is frequently invited to lead workshops with several choirs and conductors in Portugal and Spain and is also invited to present papers at national and international congresses on portuguese choral music and on methodologies for working with children’s choirs.
She holds degrees in Singing, Musicology, Choral Conducting and Pedagogy, and a PhD in Artistic Education and has published research articles on the impact of imagery and metaphors on singers’ development and the choir’s role as a performing entity.
Currently teaches at the Guimarães Conservatory, is a guest lecturer at the University of Minho, and is the founder and artistic director of the Youth choir Jovens Cantores de Guimarāes.
